LEGAL ADVISOR
Shysta was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn in 2002. She completed her pupillage in 2004 with Preston set of Chambers and joined Kenworthy’s Chambers in 2008. She is a Practicing Barrister at Kenworthy’s and a Partner at UK International Lawyers. Within her practice, Shysta specialises in Personal Injury and Civil Litigation. She is also one of the few barristers in the country to advise on Islamic Banking and Finance. Shysta has a growing international client base and is licensed to accept instructions for advocacy work in the English Courts. She has interest in mental health law and human rights. During her Graduate Diploma in Law and Bar exams, Shysta was awarded the Sir Thomas Moore Scholarship from the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn. She was awarded a distinction for outstanding results in the Diploma in Law. In addition she obtained a distinction in a Diploma in Islamic Cultural Studies and Urdu. Shysta is a member of the Personal Injury Bar Association and the Institute of Islamic Banking & Insurance. Shysta has been ranked as a Leader in her Field in Chambers & Partners. Shysta qualified as an ADR Group Accredited Civil & Commercial Mediator in 2013. She holds dual US accreditation with the International Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR) and is a recognised INADR mediator since November 2015. Shysta is also registered as a Public Access Barrister at Kenworthy’s Chambers and members of the public, professionals and companies can instruct her without the use of a solicitor directly.
PUBLIC RELATIONS ADVISOR
Owen Kelly works at the University of Edinburgh Business School as Director of Engagement, where he is also a doctoral researcher in moral philosophy. He previously worked at Edinburgh Napier University as a Lecturer in Financial Services. He regularly comments in the media on economic and business affairs. He has extensive experience of professional communications, in both the private sector and the public. From 2008 to 2016 he was Chief Executive of Scottish Financial Enterprise, the representative body for Scotland's financial services industry. Before that, he worked for 20 years as a civil servant in the UK and Scottish Governments. He served as Principal Private Secretary to the First Minister of Scotland and as Director of Communications for the Scottish Government. He holds an honours degree in Chinese (1986) and a Diploma in Social and Public Policy (1998), both from the University of Edinburgh, as well as a Diploma in Chinese Language from Shandong University. He is a trustee of the David Hume Institute, the Historic Scotland Foundation, the McConnell International Foundation and Citizens' Advice Edinburgh. He was awarded an OBE (Officer of the British Empire) in the New Year's Honours List in 2014.
OWEN KELLY, OBE
GOVERNANCE ADVISOR
After several years with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), John established his own CA practice in 1991, Danzig & Co, to provide generalised proactive support services to the small and medium business market, where relevant in-house expertise is normally limited. After selling his Practice in 2014, he set up a consulting firm that provides strategic services for SMEs and charity enterprises. John is a Long Standing Member of the Institute’s Strategy Board for Scotland.
